Service Description: Feature class StormwaterBMP stores geometry, attributes, and miscellaneous notes describing implemented best management practices across the City of Wilmington. Best management practices refers to "a term used to describe a type of water pollution control. Stormwater BMPs are techniques, measures, or structural controls used to manage the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater runoff" (epa.gov).
The layer contains constructed and natural infiltration, wet, and bio-retention type BMPs both publically and privately maintained, permitted and non-permitted. Data set does not provide a complete portrait of the hydrological system or implemented BMPs across the city; only those examined features with significance within the City’s stormwater infrastructure are included. Furthermore, the layer references data collected by multiple different entities working under different or unknown procedural frameworks across an extended temporal scale, resulting in data quality discrepancies within the dataset. Data within this layer was processed using office editing and heads up digitization by City of Wilmington Stormwater Services Staff using unknown procedures and protocols, adding another dimension of uncertainty to the dataset. Dataset is intended to be part of a system inventory guide, and is not a complete survey-grade assessment of the City’s stormwater system or BMP implementation.
