This dataset was developed to approximate delineations of the watersheds in the greater Wilmington, NC area. A watershed is defined here as an area of land that drains surface water to a specific body of water such as a creek, lake, or river. This information can be useful to a variety of audiences to better understand individual/local impacts on the surrounding environment. Education outreach efforts rely heavily on the use of this information and its accuracy. The development of this dataset was undertaken to provide close approximate delineations of the watersheds in the greater Wilmington, NC area. This data was created based on topography lines, elevation points, and a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to best delineate boundaries between watersheds. |
